We find the exact knot, not the area.
For the knot that stretching, foam rolling and time never reach: one thin needle, straight to the spot. Always explained first, and always optional.
What It Is
You did the stretches. You bought the foam roller. You are the kind of person who follows through, and the knot is still exactly where it was. That is not a discipline problem. A trigger point sits buried inside the muscle, and those fibers are stuck in a low-grade contraction they cannot release on their own. Stretching skims over it. Rolling presses around it.
Left alone, the muscles around it start covering, and eventually the ache turns up somewhere new. Dry needling sends a thin, sterile needle straight into the knot itself. When it finds the spot, the muscle often gives one quick twitch, the local twitch response. That twitch is the muscle letting go. Then we use the range it gives back, in the same visit, so the muscle relearns its job instead of gripping straight back down.
It is not acupuncture. Acupuncture works from a traditional Chinese medicine framework built around energy meridians. Dry needling is Western and neuromuscular: one identifiable knot, in one specific muscle, found in your movement evaluation. And if needles are a hard no for you, say so. This is one tool inside your plan, never the whole plan. You decide.
Always optional, never sprung on you
What It Helps
If a muscle feels locked no matter what you do, there is a good chance a trigger point is the reason.
What A Session Looks Like
1
We find the exact knot, not the area.
2
One quick twitch, then the muscle lets go.
3
We retrain it while the range is there.
Why It Works
Reaches what stretching never gets to.
One muscle, one knot, not a general area.
Opens range you use the same visit.
One tool in your plan, always optional.

Questions, Answered
Less than you are picturing. What people usually describe is a quick pinch, then a brief twitch as the needle finds the trigger point, then the muscle letting go. It is short and it is local, nothing like the ongoing ache you walked in with. You are in control the whole time. We explain exactly what we are doing before a needle comes out, we stop the second you want to stop, and needling is always optional.
No. Acupuncture comes from a traditional Chinese medicine framework built around energy meridians. Dry needling is a Western, neuromuscular technique. Your Doctor of Physical Therapy is targeting one specific trigger point, found in your movement evaluation, in one muscle we can name and point to. Not a body-wide energy map.
It depends on your plan. Dry needling is coded differently than a standard physical therapy visit, and insurers do not all treat it the same way. We verify your exact benefits before your first session, so you hear the number from us and not from a surprise on your bill. Questions before then? Call us at (708) 657-4038.
